It’s one of these hidden gems I love discovering on the internet and makes this blog and my newsletter so fun to write. Frankly, I’m gutted I’m not in the US to experience this slow fashion app myself but I think you’re going to love it.
The Dibz is a secret, super confidential, text-only experience that gives you access to hyper personalised curations of excess inventory, one-off items and perfectly imperfect pieces from slow fashion labels in the US.
Most fashion brands – fast and slow – are faced with the issue of finding buyers for their dead stock and unsold pieces at the end of each season. Unethical brands usually overproduce in the first place, and resort to burning these unwanted but perfect clothes. This practice is extremely harmful to the environment. It also shows a total lack of respect for the people who made the clothes, and it’s pure yet totally avoidable waste.
For example, Burberry did it in 2018. More recently, Coach confessed to purposely ripping up bags that were returned to its stores, even if the bags were still in good condition. This is absolutely unacceptable and makes me feel sick just writing about it.
A new slow fashion app (US only)
Although sample sales and outlets aren’t the perfect solution, it’s a good start. It gives us – consumers – the option to buy at our own pace, in our own time, and at more affordable prices. This latter point is particularly important because slow fashion brands can be on the pricier side and unattainable for some of us.
Secret discounts on conscious fashion labels
On The Dibz, you’ll be able to buy pieces from a selection of small brands that all have a commitment to sustainability and ethics. They curate independent designer brands that use Shopify – the e-commerce platform for start-ups and medium businesses – primarily. For example, you’ll find perfectly amazing cast-offs by Shand, Tyler McGillivary, and Silpa.
A text-based sustainable shopping experience
How does it work? After you’ve entered your phone number (US only), you’ll be directed to a style questionnaire. You’ll fill out your favourite colour palette, sizes and style preferences in order to receive personalised shopping curations based on your needs and likes. If you don’t know your own style yet, read my blog post on this specific topic.
Personalised drops and super good deals
The Dibz will then text you shopping curations from various slow fashion brands, at a more affordable price, based on your answers. Instead of scrolling for hours to find the perfect dress online, you’ll be presented with a selection that matches you and your taste… directly on your phone, at your convenience.
Another great element about this service is that these sales are not searchable online. It means there is less competition and you actually have a chance to snatch that gorgeous sustainably-made piece you’ve been eyeing for months.
The Dibz is officially launching in March. You can register your number and start filing your style profile now to be amongst the first to experience it.
