Supermodel Kaia Gerber showcases a week of outfits inspired by her personal style in the latest episode of Vogue’s YouTube series ‘7 days, 7 looks’. The video, which garnered 583,795 views in less than a week, is an ode to minimalist, effortless and casual chic fashion with a hint of 90’s aesthetic.
Kaia lists everything she wears on different occasions (real or fantasise), mentioning internationally known labels such as Céline, Paco Rabanne and Khaite alongside super fast fashion brands like Free People and Brandy Melville.
Up until the activewear outfit, the ‘going to the gym look’, which she describes as “the most realistic outfit of the entire week”. She is seen wearing a plain, dark grey, high-rise legging and twisted sports bra with classic Ugg ankle boots. However, she doesn’t seem to remember the name of the brand and says:
I have no idea where this is from, but I found it on Instagram and I love it!
That’s the only piece she can’t remember and that’s too bad because it’s the most interesting one!
The latter oversight went completely unnoticed if we read the comments section. It’s mostly populated with compliments over her natural beauty and refreshingly “relatable” looks. However, eco-fashion fans like myself must have noticed this cute set is from a very well-known sustainable activewear brand called Girlfriend Collective.
Thankfully, the producers at Vogue included links to every piece worn by the model. The ones relevant to the gym set points to Net-A-Porter albeit this particular top isn’t available… because it’s a nursing bra designed for ‘feeding on-the-go’. Strange choice, but it does look absolutely stunning on her.
If you’re interested in getting your hands on this set I suggest you shop it directly from the brands’ website to give them the credit they deserve. As a side note, this is one of the two sustainable brands in the video, the other one being vegan luxury label Nanushka, which is mentioned. However, sustainability efforts on the piece worn by Kaia – an oversized vegan leather blazer – are less obvious.
The high rise compression legging is available here and the top is here.
This exact set is available in the US only (to my despair).
Kaia Gerber wears Girlfriend Collective in Vogue video
Girlfriend Collective is an American brand launched in 2017, with a focus on recycled fibre leggings, they first distributed for free to build their customer base. They’re now a well-established, almost ‘cult’ brand in the sustainable fashion space and beyond. Their first Econyl swimwear collection released last month garnered massive press coverage.
According to their website, Girlfriend Collective produces in Hanoi (Vietnam), in factories where fair wages, safe and healthy conditions, and zero forced or child labor is guaranteed by the SA8000 standard certification. They use recycled fabric and in the case of Kaia’s set, the compressive leggings are made from 79% recycled polyester (or RPET) and 21% spandex.
If you’re interested in finding out more about Girlfriend Collective’s social and environmental work, their about page is very thorough, including what they do well and what they’re currently improving.
