If you’ve been reading my blog, you know I don’t buy brand new clothes very often. I usually thrift them or go on a proper vintage hunt to find a particular piece I wish to add to my closet – and report back to you over here. However, sometimes this shopping method doesn’t work for very specific items.
I was craving elevated loungewear clothes that could be worn in and out of the ‘home-office’ and boast added benefits such as ultimate comfort, versatility and a good fit. Loungewear being one of the biggest fashion trends of 2020-21 it didn’t take me ages to find inspiration and set my eyes on a pair of flare knitted palazzo trousers in a cream colour.
I couldn’t find them secondhand and ventured to source them from a regular brand with good eco-credentials. During my research I found the brand Nu In, which seems to be doing things better than its fast fashion counterparts. These trousers are made with upcycled cotton, recycled polyester and a mix of other recycled fabrics, which means its content is 100% upcycled or recycled. They were made in Portugal, which has better working conditions for garment workers than elsewhere in Europe and the world. It came packaged in a 100% compostable and degradable bag and even the label was printed on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper.
Although Nu-In offer loads of different options and introduces new products regularly, I bought these trousers almost a year ago and they’re still available at their original price. This is a good sign.
A transitional wardrobe staple
I’m fond of the style of these trousers, which is fundamental for me. Sustainability is essential. But what’s the point in buying new clothes if there’s no oomph about them?
Anyway, I’ve been living in them since last spring and brought them back this autumn. They’re the perfect length and thickness for mid-season weather to be honest. I’ve paired them with flowy blouses (like here), smart jackets (see here) and fitted ribbed tank tops like in the photos below. I knew they would work well with various pieces I already owned that’s why I knew it was a smart purchase decision.
It’s definitely one of the best new addition to my 2021 wardrobe and so deserved its own blog post. As always, you’ll find a lit of similar options at the bottom of this article – some more sustainable/expensive than others.
